The Labour Party can’t have it both ways!
I have written this very short letter to the Sheffield Telegraph. Dear Editor Two recent articles in the Telegraph deserve a response from our political masters. How do Tom Hunt and our MPs respond to Ci Davis (19.12.24), who demolished their core policy of aiming for economic growth? And how does Mayor Oliver Coppard respondContinueContinue reading “The Labour Party can’t have it both ways!”
Sheffield City Council Gambles on Economic Growth to Produce Prosperity
A guest blog by Ci Davis Councillors have adopted ‘Sheffield’s Growth Plan 2025-2035’, endorsing Cllr Tom Hunt’s Foreword to the report that states, “strong and sustained economic growth is the route to Sheffield being a more prosperous City”. This is not surprising, there is an assumption that economic growth means progress or well-being, and allContinueContinue reading “Sheffield City Council Gambles on Economic Growth to Produce Prosperity”
Tom Hunt is challenged to stand down over Gaza
The following letter from Julie Pearn to Cllr Tom Hunt, leader of Sheffield City Council, has not received a reply. On the day that the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu (Israeli Prime Minister), Yoav Gallant (former Israeli Defence Minister) and Mohammed Deif (military commander of Hamas) I am happy toContinueContinue reading “Tom Hunt is challenged to stand down over Gaza”
Bees call on Dr Who, the Council, the Government and the public to do more to protect them.
Photos by Roan On World Bee Day, Monday 20th May, people dressed as bees swarmed to the police box next to Sheffield Town Hall. Safe Streets Now! Join us in Walkley and Park Hill this Saturday.
Every week in the Sheffield Telegraph it’s a sure bet that there will be various stories about car crashes. Each crash means misery for the people involved, more expense for the NHS, delays for other travellers and at its worst life-changing injuries or death. Across the UK, someone is killed or seriously injured on our roads every 16 minutes.
Change Everything
Natalie Bennett, Baroness of Manor Castle has written a book, called Change Everything. It is not mistitled, she really does want to Change Everything and it is an excellent introduction to what it means to be Green today. As Natalie writes in the introduction, the book is about “ innovation in the way our societies work, how we care for each other, relate to each other and the natural world and meet our most basic needs. And most crucially, how we think about our lives.”
Let’s commit to no more road expansion
The stress of traffic is a burden. Whether we’re stuck in it, trying to keep our kids safe beside or crossing it, if we’re straining to hear someone talk over it, or even just breathing near it. It’s costing lives and money, and we can’t afford it any longer. We can do better than this. ContinueContinue reading “Let’s commit to no more road expansion”
I’m an adman’s nightmare!
I was very pleased by Sheffield City Council’s recent decision on advertising. Last Monday the Finance Committee agreed to a ban on ads for junk food, sugary drinks, petrol cars, flights, alcohol, gambling and vaping. Sheffield has gone further than other cities like Bristol and Norwich as they have also banned high-carbon car and flight advertising.
