A letter to the Sheffield Star

Much has been written recently, speculating on a dystopian future as a result of Artificial Intelligence (AI). But what the commentators have failed to tell us is that an apocalypse has already occurred as a direct result of the use of AI.
The film NAZA, which I hope will soon be showing at the Showroom but will be available to stream for free from November, details exactly how this has happened.
Naomi Klein says that the computer scientists worrying about their tech going rogue is a huge distraction from what is already happening. She says, “It is making machineries of mass slaughter much more efficient, seemingly distant, giving the people who are making the decision to participate in these systems a feeling that they are just applying a system as opposed to making those real decisions.” Decisions which involve committing mass murder.
The combination of AI technology and supremacist ideology has led to the Israeli Government being able to commit genocide in Gaza. NAZA shows the deliberate campaign to erase Palestinian society, but to those doing it, it is more like a video game. So if the algorithms showed there was a possibility of a Hamas operative (which might just mean a Government official, not necessarily a combatant) being in a building, the whole building would be blown up, regardless of who else was in it. Soldiers testify in the film that this was taken much further, as they destroyed whole sections of cities because a Hamas person might be there.
AI is an incredibly powerful tool and is already in the hands of a racist, supremacist Government that seeks to destroy a whole nation of people. We should stop hypothesising about what might happen with AI in the future and concentrate on the war crimes that have already been carried out. Our Government is complicit by supplying Israel with arms, and arresting those who speak out against it here.
We need to be asking which tech companies built these systems and how we can hold them accountable for the genocide they have enabled.
