People’s Emergency Briefing Update

At the last Full Council Meeting, Deputy Lord Mayor Peter Gilbert announced a special showing of the People’s Emergency Briefing film for all Councillors on Wednesday 14 October at 5pm. Please get in touch with your Councillors (you have 3) and let them know how important it is for them to see this film. How can they plan for the future safety of Sheffield citizens if they don’t understand the threats we are facing?

The Councillors’ screening is intended to be an informative and reflective event, not a place for party politics. Geoff Cox from South Yorkshire Climate Alliance will be chairing, and he will be joined by two climate researchers. John Grant (Sheffield Hallam University) and Richard Sulley (Grantham Centre, UoS) will answer questions and suggest how councillors could continue to be engaged.

Thirty-eight screenings have been held already or are being advertised across Sheffield, part of over 4,500 screenings nationally. Over 1,500 Sheffield residents have signed the petition for a screening by a national television broadcaster. If you haven’t signed yet, sign now!

There are lots of planned screenings for the film. In the near future, it’s appearing at Greenhill Community Library, St Luke’s Church Lodge Moor, St Chad’s Church Woodseats, Nelson Mandela Auditorium, Sheffield University, St Mark’s Broomhill, St Mary’s Community Centre Bramall Lane, Holy Trinity Millhouses, Fulwood Chapel, Manor Oaks House, Manor Lane, Sheffield Buddhist Centre, All Saints Ecclesall and the Showroom Cinema. More are being planned. You can find the latest list here with details of how to get tickets. If there isn’t a screening near you, perhaps you could organise one?
