Station Rally for Palestine

Annie O’Gara spoke movingly about Dr Abu Safiya, “The Last Doctor Standing” in Gaza who has now been arrested by the Israelis and was filmed in his cell wearing handcuffs with is head shaved.

Here is the film she spoke about.

Musheir spoke about Yvette Cooper’s recent announcement about the use of the word “Intifada”.

Here is another good explanation of the meaning of “Globalise the Intifada” https://www.facebook.com/reel/1924646105121137

Paul’s speech reminded us that as we approach Christmas, we should consider the plight of Bethlehem today.

All the protesters were extremely concerned about the Hunger Strikers. At least this week the Sheffield Star gave them some attention following the peaceful occupation of the Town Hall.

At last, some local press coverage of the Hunger Strikers. Well done those that went to the Town Hall. http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/politic…

Here is an excellent report from Double Down News on the Hunger Strikers.

Excellent report from Double Down News on the Hunger Strikers. Meanwhile BBC News at ten reported it tonight but failed to explain the hunger strikers demands. youtu.be/e0qh1kkEAaM?…

Sheffield PSC write

Sheffield support for Hunger Strikers

Six young men and women have been on hunger strike in English jails for up to 49 days [seven weeks].

They are at risk of dying, and yet David Lammy, the Justice Secretary, and the Government in general is refusing to intervene.

They have been in prison, on remand, in most cases for over a year and have little prospect of a trial before 2027. They have been convicted of nothing.

They are:

  • Qesser Zuhrah
  • Amu Gib
  • Heba Muraisi
  • Teuta Hoxha
  • Kamran Ahmed
  • Lewie Chiaramello

Their demands are:

  1. End all censorship of their communications
  2. Immediate bail
  3. Right to a fair trial, including the release of all documents
  4. De-proscribe Palestine Action
  5. Shut down Elbit Systems, the Israeli owned arms manufacturer, in UK

Supporters in Sheffield have been demonstrating their support, and demanding that the government meet with their lawyers, every day for the last week:

  • outside the Ministry of Justice Sheffield offices [Friday 12th, Monday 15th, and Thursday 18th],
  • inside Sheffield Town Hall [Wednesday17th],
  • and in Sheffield train station [Friday 19th].

Heba Muraisa, now on day 47 of her hunger strike, is being held locally in Newhall Prison, near Wakefield, and supporters gathered near outside on Saturday afternoon to express their support and demand her release.

Sheffield Councillors have initiated, alongside Liverpool, a letter to David Lammy urging him to act now signed by over 100 councillors [copy in attached document].

Actions and protests continue in Sheffield:

  • Sunday 21st December: Silent Walk and Vigil, leaving Devonshire Green at 10.45am to walk to Sheffield Cathedral for a Vigil starting at 11.30am.
  • Monday 22nd December at 4.00pm: Emergency Protest outside Elbit supplier Ametek-Land, Stubley Lane, S18 1DJ.

Jon, on behalf of Sheffield Palestine supporters said:

“This is an emergency and demands urgent actions. We will continue to protest while the government refuses to respond to the demand from the hunger strikers to meet their representatives. The Sheffield offices of the Justice Department refused to take our letter to David Lammy. The leader of the Council didn’t respond when we went to the Town Hall to ask the Council to intervene, although it is great to see Councillors from Sheffield writing to David Lammy urging him to act.

“It’s outrageous that they have been held in prison for over a year already, with the prospect of a trial in 2027, for attacking factories and planes that are being used to support genocide in Gaza.

“We ask everyone to write to their MPs to demand that they act to end our Government’s support for the genocide in Gaza and the destruction of the West Bank. And write to David Lammy demanding the release the Palestine Action prisoners being held for acting in support of Palestine.”
