“The IDF soldiers were firing indiscriminately when they raided New Askar refugee camp in Nablus” says resident”
Sheffield Nablus Twinning Association is deeply saddened to learn of yet another tragic death of a Palestinian boy, 18 year old Mohammad Abu Hneen, by Israeli soldiers on Thursday 23rd October. He died from a single bullet wound to the chest after he simply stepped out to buy a few necessities for his family from a nearby shop. He succumbed to his injury early Friday morning, October 24, 2025. Israeli occupation forces had prevented ambulances from reaching him. His brother and several other youths from New Askar Camp had to carry Mohammad on their shoulders under a hail of bullets, desperately trying to save his life. This is the stark reality of life for Nablus residents in the West Bank of Palestine living under Israeli military occupation.

“Residents were going about their daily lives when the occupation forces attacked the camp unexpectedly and began shooting indiscriminately—without distinguishing between a child, a woman, an elderly man, or a young person like Mohammad” says a local camp leader.
Israeli forces have stepped up their violent assaults on occupied West Bank cities like Nablus with many reports of innocent Palestinians being shot, beaten or rounded up and detained without trial. Notwithstanding nearly 2000 Palestinian detainees being released under Trump’s Gaza peace deal, up to 10,000 remain in detention, many not charged with any offence, amid increasing reports of extreme mistreatment including rape, beatings and torture.
Settler attacks have also increased as fanatical Zionists drive Palestinian farmers off the land they have farmed for centuries, often with the full support of Israeli soldiers and certain leading politicians. October 2025, the time of the vital olive harvest, was the most violent month since the UN began tracking settler violence in 2013.
Israel occupies the West Bank and Gaza illegally under international law and has been instructed by the International Court to immediately end its occupation. Israel is ignoring this with apparent impunity and has even tried to pass legislation recently to formally annex the West bank and make it part of Israel.
Nablus needs our solidarity and support more than ever at this time as Israel uses the current situation to increase its hold on the West Bank and prepares to drive out even more Palestinians from their homes.
