Over one thousand local councillors have signed the Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s Pledge for Palestine!
Councillors from across Britain and a wide range of political parties have vowed to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people and oppose council complicity in Israel’s genocide and apartheid.
The pledge commits council representatives to take all appropriate steps to
(1) uphold the rights of the Palestinian people,
(2) stand up to Israel for its crimes of genocide and apartheid, and
(3) ensure their councils are not complicit, including through divestment of pension funds from complicit companies.

In Sheffield, all 14 Green Councillors have signed. 7 Labour Councillors have signed, which is just 19% of the 36 Councillors. But no Liberal Democrat, Community, Independent or Reform Councillors have signed as yet.
Here is Sheffield Green Councillor Alexi Dimond pushing the Labour Council leader Tom Hunt to support Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel at the end of last year.
In Rotherham, only 5 Councillors have signed, 2 Independents and 3 Labour.
Doncaster and Barnsley were particularly disappointing, with no Councillors supporting as yet.
Dan Iley-Williamson, political organiser at the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, said local authorities “administer pension funds that invest more than £12bn in companies enabling Israel’s crimes, including in arms firms that make the bombs and bullets used to kill Palestinians”.
“The mass movement for Palestine – which has brought millions onto Britain’s streets – is not going away,” he added.
“Vote Palestine will take our demands into the May elections and deliver a message to those seeking office: If you want our votes, stand up for Palestine.”
Read more about it in Sky New’s coverage: https://news.sky.com/…/over-1-000-councillors-sign Note this includes views from Labour Friends of Israel that constantly conflate legitimate actions to put pressure on the Israeli Government to stop the Genocide with anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism, just like any form of racism, should be deplored. But campaigning against the Israeli Government is not anti-semitic, indeed, many Jewish people are part of the campaign.
