Israel is a terror state

A letter to the Sheffield Star

Cyril Olsen doesn’t believe Israel is a terrorist state (Star 11/11/23) and justifies this because they have a democracy. Being a democracy does not entitle Israel to carry out war crimes. I am currently watching Al Jezera (the BBC is consistently failing to report the full horrors of the war on Gaza) and I am hearing reports of White Phosphorus Bombs being used around hospitals (a weapon that human rights activists believe should be explicitly banned under international law), babies in incubators fighting for their lives due to Israel cutting off the electricity, doctors and nurses in despair as they have no medicine or even food and water to treat their patients. Over 11000 Palestinians have now been killed as Israel continues to indiscriminately bomb housing, schools, mosques, hospitals and even churches. Israel is most definitely a terrorist state.

On Saturday l proudly marched to call for a ceasefire and demand justice for the Palestinian people. It was entirely appropriate for this to happen on Armistice Day. We held a 2 minutes silence at the beginning of the march to remember all victims of war.

Cyril needs to get his facts right concerning the Council motion, which condemned Hamas as well as Israel. He is wrong in saying Hamas caused this current conflict. The conflict has been ongoing since Israel was founded. The vast majority of Palestinians have nothing to do with Hamas yet they are being collectively punished by Israel.

He then accuses marchers, as former Home Secretary Suella Braverman did, of being part of a hate campaign against Israel. This is insulting and untrue. We are marching for peace and justice. We stand with the vast majority of countries around the world who are calling for a ceasefire. It is the UK and US Governments that are out of step with this and unfortunately, to their great discredit, the UK Labour Party.

If you are not convinced that Israel is a terror state, please watch this video. But be warned, it does include extremely upsetting scenes.
