On Wednesday July 7th I am going to take the “Stop using Glyphosate” petition to the Sheffield Full Council meeting at Ponds Forge. As more than 5000 Sheffield citizens have signed the petition, this will force a debate. Please join me before the meeting for a rally outside Ponds Forge from 1 to 1.45pm. Bring banners and placards. If you would like to speak on behalf of an organisation at the rally please let me know.
If coming to the rally please take care to socially distance. Bring your sanitiser and wear a mask.
Confirmed speakers so far include Councillor Alison Teal (Green Party member of the Cooperative Executive), Graham Wroe (initiator of the petition) Deb (Extinction Rebellion), Dawn Spier (Nature Recovery Sheffield) and Fiona (Friends of Birley Spa).
Act Now will be performing some street theatre. They have asked children and anyone young at heart to come dressed as insects and join in the drama.
Please write to your Councillor before the meeting asking them to support the ban and contribute to the debate. You can find contact details here.
As the Council is now run by a Labour/Green Party Cooperative Executive I am confident we will now be listened to. At the last meeting, the Council declared a Nature Emergency, so the next obvious step is to stop spreading poison on our streets!
If you want to attend the debate in person this is possible, or you can watch the live stream on the Council website.
It would be great to get the petition up to 7000 before the meeting so please share it again on social media and tell your friends about the rally. https://you.38degrees.org.uk/…/sheffield-city-council…
