On Wednesday, Greenpeace volunteers gathered outside the Town Hall before the Full Council meeting. They talked to passers by about their concerns about the Climate and Nature Emergency, and recorded questions to pass on to their MP’s. Mike Nutt explains what went on.
I found it fascinating talking to passers by. A very common theme I experienced was that people were concerned about Climate Change, but they had very little faith in their MP to do anything about it. That is why it is so important to join organisations like Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion and Friends of the Earth (who were also there) to pressurise the Government to act. Look out for further news from the event here.
On the same day, many Sheffielders travelled to London for the Climate Coalitions, mass lobby of Parliament. The Climate Coalition is a network of more than 120 UK organisations representing more than 22 million people, including the National Trust, the RSPB and the Women’s Institute. Many lobbied for Zero Hour’s Climate and Nature Bill which is supposed to be debated tomorrow but it looks like the Government my renege on their promise to do this. Please urgently contact your MP and ask for the CAN Bill to be debated tomorrow as previously promised.
Here is a report in the Guardian.
